My Experience at La Esquina Tapas..........17-06-2011

While we were in England we visited my brother and sister-in-law in Southampton as well. Even though we were in a foreign country we didn’t feel like typical cuisine from that country, so we found a cute Spanish restaurant instead. Last year we actually visited Spain with my brother so going to La Esquina Tapas with him was sort of like travelling down memory lane.
We arrived there quite late as we got stuck at another bar so we had to order immediately as the kitchen wanted to close. Seeing as it was a tapas restaurant we had the following:
Ensalada La Esquina - Pear and Blue Cheese salad
Plato de Serrano - Plate of Serrano Ham
Albondigas La Esquina - Meatballs in a rich tomato sauce
Champi al Ajillo - Mushrooms in garlic butter
Patatas Bravas – Diced fried potato in a spicy tomato sauce
Chorizo con Garbanzos – Spanish chorizo sausage with chickpeas
Calamares La Esquina – Crispy fried squid with salt and paprika
Paella La Esquina – House Paella rice, onion, chicken, peas, prawns and squid cooked in stock
And for dessert we had:
Tiramisu – Light whipped chocolate cream dessert with biscuit, coffee and brandy
Crema Catalana – Traditional Spanish custard dessert with crunchy sugar topping
All of the food was really good!! I absolutely love Spanish food! Just reading through this list again makes me want to go back! If you were blindfolded you wouldn’t know that you were eating in the UK as the food tastes like it is straight from the shores of Spain. One of my favourites was the Serrano Ham. We were lucky enough to have it again for breakfast the next morning, wrapped around some sweet melon.

Yours in fun & Serrano ham,
